Do we have an update on how many NEWBIES have joined in 2012 ?
by smiddy ini think with every year their are more and more newbies that identify with this site , would you like to say " hi ", if you have joined in the last 12 months ?.
does anybody have a graph of the numbers of newbies who have joined in say the last 5 years ?.
i think that would be interesting.

We wouldn't let you mouthy! We still need you. Stick around as long as you can!
I've been listening to Brain Rules- by Steven Pinker.
I also just started reading The World Until Yesterday by Jared Diamond. It's supposed to be a follow-up to Guns, Germs, and Steel.

Books that make you go hmm....
by jgnat init's occurred to me that i have been reshaped by the books i have read, taking my new knowledge for granted, and forgetting that those around me have not been on the same journey.
as a consequence sparks fly, as iron sharpening iron, as we strive to understand each other (or to insist that we are not the same).
there are a few books that stand out, as i refer to them over and over again.

If you wanted to go to College/University, how do you think you would fair, after paying off your Student Loans?
by LoisLane looking for Superman inif you go to college/university...where do you see yourself in 20 years, 50 years?.
if you do not get higher learning, where do you see yourself in 20 years, 50 years?.
or loss/saving for 40 years = $480,000.00.. someone else can compound the interest.. do you have a 5 year plan?

I agree with hoser on this one. The right vocation for someone might not need college/uni. If a person can find what's right for them, they will never have an issue.
Personally, the right career for me was a trade. It comes easily to me, and I'm doing well financially as a result. At times I do wish I had gone to University, but it wouldn't have fit into my life at the time. There have been sacrifices for my career, but at this point I should never have money or employment issues unless I bring them on myself.
What the WT wants, though, is for dubs to be hard done by. Uneducated, uninformed, struggling financially in a job that they hate. A career so bad that service doesn't seem so bad! It is truly sad.

not ready to go over to the "dark side"
by nowwhat? inafter spending a lifetime in it, no one is as fed up with the wt as i am.
[my golf game would have been a hell of alot better if i was'nt banging my head against the wall on saturdays!
lol ] this forum has taught me alot more than i thought to confirm my suspicions.

Well if that's honestly what you believe, then the WT is where you belong. Even if one is silly enough to believe the bible is what they say it is, most of those JW specific beliefs you listed are non-biblical.
Its ok though, it takes a while to learn how to take off the WT glasses and just read the words for what they are.

Brazilian waxing and JWs
by Bella15 inwith all the control they want to have over people's lives, i wonder if going brazilian down there (male or female) would be cause for readjustment???
lol i can see sister a telling the elders on sister b ... lol... i wonder what scriptures they would use to make their point across ... i know that for non-jw this would sound totally crazy but as an ex-jw i know that this is totally possible ....

"Rich bounty of pubes" lol.
Seriously though, this should be a non-issue. Any elduh who would have a problem with it would obviously just be jealous that his ol' lady wouldn't dream of goin' smooth.

WELCOME! You sound a lot like myself and many many others on this board. Personally I found the commonality of my experience with so many others to be comforting. We all do it at different speeds, but we are all here to help one another.
Please take it SLOW with you wife. If you out yourself too soon, she'll put her guard up to some of the things you say, invoking the cult personality. Please read Steve Hassan's books, they will explain it better than I can. You are in a unique position, still able to plant seeds without having her guard up. Once you out yourself, her cult mind will discard what could otherwise have been good info.
Very happy to have you here! And look forward to hearing more from you. Please feel free to PM me anytime.

Should i go?
by MsGrowingGirl20 inso, a good friend of mine, a pentecostal christian, invited me to go to a retreat with her church.
we're the same age-19 years.
we were friends before i became a witness and she was always patient and caring with me especially throughout my arrogant spell as a witness.

Its a trap. Pentecostals are weeeird. Maybe at least do a little research about them before you agree to go.
We would hate to see you get sucked into another crazy ass religion.

DAMMIT stupid ipad keyboard.
The big A is JUST around the corner, you're in or youre out routine. I just said I've taken a step back re-evlauate my spirituality, I hate service, etc. nothing too revealing. I'm trying REALLY HARD not to raise any eyebrows while I fade. Thats th only reason I agreed to meet with them. Theyre just doing their job, and showing their concern. The one guy was trying really hard to relate to me, while the other one was getting frustrated that i wouldnt see things his way.
I wanted so badly to bring up how there is no reason for me to preach. When he tried to say that not going in service made me blood guilty I said; "thats a bit of a stretch, dont you think?" All in all, IMO its just best to nod and play along. They had good intentions, and honestly I do appreciate them trying. Now that thats over, hopefully they'll be off my case for while.
My wife was crying the whole time, she usually never cries. I guess it didn't help that I "came out" to her last night about my disbelief in all things supernaural. She took that hard, really hard. I just tried my best to at least help her understand why. I explained a small list of items that I am unable to reconcile with the bible. She of course has never considered
More on that gem of a story lter, I'd better go clean up a bit. We're having a house full of JW's coming over tonight.
PS don't buy an iPad bluetooth keyboard if you have big mitts like me. Sorry for the pooor typing.
